In Chinese medicine, foods have qualities or temperatures that create responses in the body. Foods that are cold or cool bring energy down and in, while foods that are warm or hot bring our energy up and out. We need both for optimal digestion and absorption of nutrients. The chart here shows the fundamental way that we categorize foods.
